Candlesticks

Pair of 18th-century English carved gilt candlesticks with sculptural neoclassical accents. A cubic marble base supports an ebonized terracotta figure of a goddess from classical antiquity. She lounges against a carved gilt wood column topped with an urn, from which two urn-shaped candle holders extend. The carved detailing is of exceptional quality, and the contrast of materials creates a wonderfully rich, dynamic effect.
